Volume I will provide fundamentals and theory necessary before moving on to any other volume. It covers the basics and prepares students with what they need to move into other volumes in the series. This includes a comprehensive knowledge of the fingerboard, basic scale and chord construction, the use of chord functions, and writing and playing basic chord progressions with triads. From there students can go into Volumes II (Seventh Chords), III (Color Chords), or into Volume IV (improvisation) or Volumes V and VI (Sight Reading). Ear training chapters cover matching pitches, singing scales and modes, and singing triads. The ear training will also help you to hear musical structures without your guitar in hand. Following this volume through to the end is a good start toward becoming a veritable chord dictionary.
